From an English language teacher to a leader in road transport in the Balkans
Former English teacher Olivera Miovska is now a successful manager in a transport company. Although, stereotypically, working as an educator is considered more appropriate for women, she says she loved the work; however it did not suit her character. Hence, she replaced parent-teacher meetings with a different kind of meetings – truck transport meetings at which she manages timely and high-quality transport of goods. In 2004, she started working for Makedonija Soobrakaj AMERIT, starting off as an assistant and now she is the manager of the department for international road and freight transport.
Online database of good practices and tools
We invite you to participate with good practices of Macedonian companies and organizations that have implemented activities to support gender equality. Send us briefly what and how you realized and what were the effects. We will publish all positive cases and tools on an online database that will be publicly available. Organizations of all kinds – companies, companies, NGOs, professional associations, public institutions, political parties and other entities can join this initiative. In this way, we want to motivate other organizations as to what they can do to promote gender equality in business and society. Please send the attached FORM to [email protected].
Gender equality basically means that women and men should participate equally in all public and private spheres of life, have equal positions and enjoy the same rights in the development of the personal potential that they use for the development of society; and that they are entitled to the same benefits from the results achieved through that development. Balanced gender participation means that every gender should be included with at least 40 per cent. This enables the gender to influence the decision-making process and participate in the achievement of change. You can read more about how to achieve a balanced leadership in the following Guidelines (Macedonian).
